The HOME Collaborative includes Umatilla, Morrow, Union, Baker, Wheeler, Lake, Harney, and Malheur Counties. We are working towards a Climate Adaptation Plan for Eastern Oregon to better prepare our communities for negative health impacts related to weather events.
Climate Resiliency:Climate resiliency is a tool we need to grow and strengthen given the severity of weather extremes that we are experiencing in Eastern Oregon and throughout the world.
Modernization and the Climate: Preparing our communites for weather events by building weather resiliency is a growing priority in our county and state, due to the increased number of wildfires, floods, excessive heat and poor air quaility increasing throughout the state as well as throughout the world.
Environmental Stewardship: The responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices to enhance ecosystem resilience and human well-being (Chapin et al., 2010 -offsite link).
Environmental education that includes stewardship provides opportunities for participants to connect with local ecosystems and tools that can help them understand how the environment impacts physical and mental health. These activities encourage people to be active within their community and take their health into their own hands. (NOAA Education Council, 2015).
